Darren Lovett

Candidate for the
Gunditjmara

My name is Darren Lovett and I’m a proud Gunditjmara man.  I lived and worked most of my life in Naarm northern-metro region.  I am a descendant of a well-recognised family that has a long history and allegiance with various Koori organisations, such as, the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, Aborigines Advancement League, Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency.

I worked in many areas that includes Aboriginal Health, Aboriginal Social Emotional Well-Being, Aboriginal Family Violence, Aboriginal Social Justice and Education – I have always been an advocate for the rights of First Peoples to gain equality and social reforms against institutional racism.

I have a strong cultural connectedness and involvement within the local Koori community, and I continue to instill these learnings and teachings onto my children and grandchildren, and to empower them feel proud and strong of their cultural heritage, and to respect country and mob.

To seek nomination as a Member of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria is wanting to serve the First Peoples of Victoria and to represent mob on their views and aspirations towards true recognition and self-determination.
