Ngata, my name is Nikki Foy. I am Gunditjmara/Wotjobaluk through my mother’s line and Yorta Yorta/Mutti Mutti through my father’s. Although I have not lived on my Traditional Country, I was raised on Wadawurrung Country in Ballarat, grounded in Culture, respect, and community.
I am a wife, a proud mother of two, and an Aunty and Great Aunty to many. I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by strong mentors, especially my mum, and I proudly describe myself as a “Co-op kid.”
For over 30 years, I have worked in Aboriginal Affairs, beginning at the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Cooperative and later at VACCHO. I now work with Victorian Legal Aid. Across community, government, and education sectors, my work has always centred on leadership, advocacy, and community.
I have contributed to many local and regional forums and led initiatives including mental health reform and On Country healing work, as well as national advocacy to Save Sorry Business.
Today, I am nominating for the Treaty Assembly to serve our people, honour our Ancestors and Elders, and help carry this work forward.
This is about legacy, self-determination, and ensuring our voices shape the future.
