Christopher Saunders

Candidate for the
Gunditjmara, Wadawurrung, and Boandik

My name is Christopher Saunders. I’m a proud Traditional Owner of Gunditjmara, Wadawurrung, and Boandik Country, and I’m standing as a candidate in the 2026 Treaty Elections.

We signed Australia’s first Treaty. Now comes the harder part — delivering it.

I’m putting my hand up because this moment demands leaders who are accountable to community, not government. The next Assembly will make decisions that shape our communities, our Country, and our kids’ futures for decades to come.

Treaty must deliver real outcomes on the ground — economic power for our communities, strong culture and language, better housing and education, and a genuine seat at the table for young people. We’re not the future. We’re the present.

I’ve worked across the South West region in many capacities, both professionally and through grassroots community-led work. I know what it means to stand up for mob in spaces where decisions are made — and what it costs when our voices aren’t there.

Our Elders fought for decades to get us here. Now it’s our responsibility to carry that work forward.

If elected, I will serve with honesty, cultural integrity, and accountability to the people I represent.

This is about our communities. Our Country. Our future.
