Hi my name is Peter-Shane Rotumah was born in Portland and raised in the northern suburbs of Melbourne before later moving to Ballarat, where i now live and raise my family on Djab Wurrung Country. A proud Gunditjmara Kerrup Jamara man, I am standing as a candidate for the South West Region in the upcoming Treaty, bringing with him over two decades of dedicated service to community, and help shape a better future with a voice and self-determination for my community.
For the past 20 years, I have worked extensively within the youth space in the Ballarat Aboriginal community. In 2019, i co-founded Burron Guli, a culturally grounded program designed to strengthen identity, resilience, and connection to culture among Aboriginal young people.
I have led and facilitated numerous cultural initiatives, including organising ‘Return to Country’ programs for youth engaged in diversion pathways through the court system and DJCS. I have also coordinated and delivered cultural camps for the BADAC Community Brothers group, supporting their return to Gunditjmara Country for immersive three-day programs. Working alongside respected community members, he provides opportunities for young people to deepen their cultural knowledge and strengthen their connection to Country, culture, and community.
