Evander Mitchell

Candidate for the
Gunditjmara, Wemba Wemba

My name is Evander Mitchell, I am a proud Gunditjmara and Wemba Wemba man who has grown up on Wurundjeri country, apart of the Melbourne Aboriginal Community.

I am standing to become a member of the First People’s Assembly of Victoria to continue to build on the strong foundations created by our Elders and Community representatives. I am committed to working towards Treaty with self-determination, truth-telling and connection at the forefront of my work and aim to empower the voice of Our Community members.

With experience across education, health, employment and local government, I have worked alongside mob in many ways, witnessing many strengths and success stories, but have also recognised the barriers that continue to be faced in these sectors.

My vision for Treaty is for the state to address these barriers and create tangible opportunities for mob in areas such as employment, economic development, improved education outcomes, and to embed the learnings and advocacy from First peoples.

With 2 young children of my own, I want our youth and next generation to see the hard work being done, so they can thrive from Treaty, and continue to hold strength together in Community.
