John Egan

My name is John Egan, I’m a proud Yorta Yorta, Wemba Wemba man with blood line connections to Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung, Bunurong, Gunditjamara, and Wiradjeri.

My childhood has been spent living throughout Victoria, with deep connections to family in Shepparton and settling in Melbourne where I have worked for the past 18 years at the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, developing a strong understanding of mental health and men’s healing programs. I am currently at Dardi Munwurro part-time working with men to support and strengthen their connections back to families, communities, spirit and culture. I also work as the Caretaker of Weeroona Aboriginal cemetery, supporting families, by providing a peaceful and safe journey to the dreaming for our people.

I am nominating for the next phase of the Assembly, as I am committed to bringing to life the vision of Gellung Warl and carrying forward the foundational work of TREATY. Ensuring we have a strong future for our people grounded in cultural values, integrity and family.
